- Random Ben is a narrative written as if telling it to a close friend. Engin Geçtan starts his story from America, where he went as a young physician in the mid-fifties. While conveying his first professional experiences in a foreign country, he also gives a colorful description of the America of the time: travels, colleagues from different countries, ethnic groups, belief systems, lifestyles, art and cultural life of the period... Then returning to Turkey, first clinical experiences, practice experience, meeting the vicissitudes of academic life, endless searches in the formation process of a psychiatrist...The book, which progresses with impressions about the dynamics of society and the psychological processes that accompany it from past to present, and proceeds with free associations, also touches upon current issues whose burning effects we feel: the increasingly widespread depression, differences in perception about democracy, the demands of the capitalist system from the individual...A journey with the joy of life from Geçtan, who never loses his childish curiosity and curious cat side.
